Josefa L. Serna papers 1910-2007

The Josefa L. Serna Papers document the family activities of Josefa Serna (1910-2007), her children, grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. The collection is comprised of her photographs, family documents, and ephemera dating back before the 1920s. The family lived most of their life in Monterey Park (in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles), though Josefa herself did not become an American citizen until the 1960s.

Biographical Note [The following biographical information was written by Laura Serna, Josefa's granddaughter.] Josefa L. Serna was born Maria Josefa Luna Reyes on March 19, 1911 in Torreón, Coahuila. At the time of her birth her mother, Delfina Reyes García and her father Francisco Luna already had four sons: Alfonso, Arturo, Rogelio, and Adrian.
